Dr. Stephen Solomon is one of the most experienced Maryland LASIK and cataracts surgeons, having performed thousands of successful LASIK and lens replacement surgeries since he began practicing four decades ago.
Dr. Solomon's education began after accepting an academic scholarship to the Temple University, Philadelphia, PA where he completed his Bachelors of Science in Biology. He continued his medical schooling at the Temple University School of Medicine, and an Ophthalmology Residency in the United States Public Health Services, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. Solomon has served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Doctors Community Hospital, Dimensions Surgical Center, and has served as chief ophthalmic consultant to the University of Maryland, Department of Athletics. Dr. Solomon is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Jonathan Solomon is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in laser cataract and refractive surgery. For his activity in the ophthalmic academic community and for his spirit and compassion which extend beyond the surgical theatre, Dr. Solomon has been acknowledged by GQ Magazine in their “Men of the Year” issue, recognized nationally as one of the “Top Doctors in America” by his peers, and listed as one of Baltimore-Washington’s Super Doctors for 2013.
As a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and International Society of Refractive Surgeons, Dr. Solomon continues to be an active contributor to the ophthalmic community. He also serves as an executive board member of the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and maintains his affiliation with the University of Maryland as the official Terps LASIK surgeon. Dr. Solomon is also a founding member of the American–European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgeons and serves on the Accreditation Board and as a member of the distinguished Cornea Society. Previously Dr. Solomon served as a Clinical Instructor at the Wilmer Eye Institute at The Johns Hopkins University. He remains active as a consultant to the FDA’s Ophthalmic Device Panel.
In an effort to stay current with the latest in ophthalmic procedures and products, Dr. Solomon works closely with the leading manufacturers of precision surgical equipment, including instruments and intraocular lens implants, and engages in a variety of studies. Some studies of note that Dr. Solomon involves himself with include the FDA study of accelerated cross–linking and the Trulign Toric–accommodating lens. As the Medical Director of Dimensions Surgery Center and co-founder of the Bowie Vision Institute, Dr. Solomon proudly offers the ORA Custom Cataract™ with VerifEye, which allows for real–time feedback in the operating room. Dr. Solomon uses the world’s first intraoperative Wavefront Aberrometer to ensure precise refractive outcomes for all of the FDA-approved presbyopia–correcting intraocular lenses (IOL): Restor®, Tecnis® Multifocal & Crystalens®. Additionally, to correct astigmatism, the Alcon Toric, Tecnis Toric, and Trulign Accommodative lenses are available to his patients. For highly myopic patients, Dr. Solomon implants Visian® ICLs, a surgically-implanted contact lens that can give refractive correction to patients who are not advised to have LASIK or PRK. During cataract surgery, Dr. Solomon uses the TrueVision 3–D Guidance system, the only one of its kind in the state of Maryland, which allows for an easier and more accurate surgical procedure.

Dr. Mark Packer, M.D. is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and lens-based refractive surgery. Dr. Packer graduated cum laude from Harvard University, and received his medical degree from the University of California at Davis and in 1995 completed his residency training in ophthalmology at Boston University Medical Center. He served as Clinical Instructor and Assistant Clinical Professor at East Carolina University from 1995-2000, and in 2006 was promoted from Clinical Assistant to Clinical Associate Professor at Oregon Health & Sciences University .
Dr. Packer’s research focuses on intraocular lens technology, glaucoma surgical devices and refractive surgery. He is currently Medical Monitor for Bausch & Lomb enVista Intraocular Lenses, Transcend Medical CyPass Glaucoma Micro Shunt, Rayner Intraocular Lenses and Oculeve Lacrimal Stimulator. He has served as Principal Investigator in more than fifty clinical trial protocols, including the Cystalens, the Tecnis Multifocal and the Synchrony Dual Optic Accommodative Intraocular Lenses.
Dr. Packer works extensively with leaders in the ophthalmic industry on the development of new technology. He has consulted for Abbott Medical Optics, Advanced Vision Science, Avantis, Auris Surgical Robotics, Bausch & Lomb Surgical, Corinthian Ophthalmics, Angle, GE Healthcare, Ista Pharmeceuticals, Lensar, mTuitive Oculeve, Rayner Intraocular Lenses, Refocus Group, Surgiview, Transcend Medical, TrueVision Systems and WaveTec Vision Systems.
Dr. Packer has more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including “Evaluation of the Aspheric Tecnis Multifocal Intraocular Lens: One-Year Results from the First Cohort of the Food and Drug Administration Clinical Trial” appearing in the American Journal of Opthalmology; “The Physics of Phaco: A Review,” “Immersion A Scan Compared to Partial Coherence Interferometry,” and other prestigious articles. He also edited the textbook Refractive Lens Surgery published by Springer and also served as editor for the “Functional Vision” issue of International Ophthalmology Clinics as well as the annual Cataract and IOL issue of Current Opinion in Ophthalmology from 2005-2009.
Dr. Packer has delivered hundreds of presentations at scientific meetings around the world and demonstrated live cataract surgery on four continents. He has served as Chairman of the Cataract Clinical Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Preferred Practice Pattern Panel for Cataract.
Dr. Packer is now available to see patients at the Bowie location, and continues his research endeavors as director of the Bowie Vision Institute, LLC for Ophthalmic Research.
Beth A. Schwartz, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in cornea and refractive disease that has worked in both private and public practice. She is a graduate of Barnard College with a Bachelor of Science degree. As an undergraduate she was an active member of Phi Beta Kappa and received summa cum laude honors. Dr. Schwartz received her M.D. from New York University School of Medicine. She also studied at other prestigious institutes as the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Ophthalmic Specialists.
Dr. Schwartz is a licensed practitioner in the state of Maryland and is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Board of Ophthalmology, Washington D.C. Metropolitan Ophthalmological Society, and the National Registry of Who's Who. She also serves on the advisory board for the International Women's Health Board and Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel.
Dr. Schwartz joined Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons in 2012, and is now accepting new patients.
Kathryn L. Thompson, OD is a member of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelors of Science degree. As an undergraduate she was an active member of the AφΩ National Service Fraternity and American Red Cross Club at Virginia Tech. Following undergrad, Dr. Thompson received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2008 and graduated with clinical honors in Low Vision Services and Primary Care. Dr. Thompson continued her optometric training through residency at Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. As a resident, she specialized in hospital based optometry and ophthalmologic co-management of glaucoma, ocular disease, inflammation, trauma, retinopathy, laser surgery, and cataracts. She is a licensed practitioner in the state of Maryland and a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and Maryland Optometric Association (MOA) since 2008.
As of April 2012, Solomon Eye Physicians and Surgeons welcomed Dr. Kathryn L. Thompson to the practice and the DC/Maryland/Virginia community. Dr. Thompson is a primary care Optometrist providing patients with a wide variety of vision services. She has extensive experience in family eye care, including dry eye management, eye surgery co-management, children’s eye examination, adult eye care and low vision consultation. Additional services include comprehensive eye care for all ages, contact lens fitting, and low vision rehabilitation to help individuals with visual impairments live a more productive and independent life.
Dr. Thompson utilizes innovative strategies to improve the delivery of high quality eye care services and clinical outcomes to provide excellence in patient care, education and research to meet the ever-changing needs of the community.
Dr. Hannah Yecheskel is a highly accomplished optometrist with over 12 years of experience serving patients across the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Widely recognized for her attention to detail to every aspect of visual and medical eye health, she is highly regarded for excellence in providing patients with innovative and personalized service. Dr. Yecheskel earned her B.A. from the University of Maryland at College Park and her Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Dr. Yecheskel is a longstanding member of the American and Maryland Optometric Associations. When she is not tending to her patients, Dr. Yecheskel enjoys exploring the world with her husband and their twin daughters.
